At Gewalt Hamilton Associates, we recognize that our success is dependent upon hiring talented, motivated people, and providing them with support, resources, and opportunities.

Our goal is to ensure that GHA is a great place to build a career. We have designed our staff development program, GHA Elevate, with this goal in mind.
GHA combines a flexible career path, with customized training resources and project assignments that are mindful of developing well-rounded employee-owners. Each plan is customized to an individual’s experience and service lines. For examples, our interns receive training in CAD, surveying, and communications, while having project experiences that range from design to construction, with plenty of client and contractor interaction and project team camaraderie.
GHA’s performance management program provides each employee-owner with comprehensive, timely feedback which leads to their customized development plan. Training options include one-on-one instruction, online or offsite courses, or one of many GHA-developed group courses. For example, our LDI (Leadership Development Initiative) provides an annual, five-session leadership course which includes communication, time management, client management, marketing, among other topics. Our EPN (Emerging Professional Network) facilitates training on networking, inclusion, and provides mentoring on career development and studying for the PE exam.
Flexible Career Path
Career goals are not one size fits all. Career success is achieved when an individual matches their personal vision of achievement, financial reward, and life balance. At GHA we work with each employee-owner to design their personal career path, revisiting it often as priorities change. There are many ways to add value to your team, organization and client. A career at GHA has many potential endpoints, whether your primary focus be technical, team management, client management, or marketing.
Customized Training Resources
Any successful training program begins with an assessment of strengths and areas for improvement. At GHA, we have feature a comprehensive of training courses applicable to everybody in the organization at the different stages of their career (Intern, Recent Graduates, Project Managers, and Leadership). Beyond this, we develop a customized training plan for each employee-owner based on their current need and career goals. This included timely technical training, ranging from one-on-one CAD instruction to offsite design courses, to online targeted training.
Mindful Project Assignments
With the fast pace of modern engineering, early career specialization is an accelerating trend. With every firm struggling to hire enough talented staff, it’s common to base project assignments solely through expedience and immediate need. At GHA, we actively consider the career goals of the individual and remember the goal is to develop strong, well-rounded employee-owners when making project assignments.
Interns
At GHA, we have always invested heavily in our intern program. We know that our interns are our future employee-owners, clients, or project partners. Regardless of whether our interns choose to build their careers at GHA, or one of their other many options, our goal is for them to have a rewarding summer experience that includes learning and developing valuable skills. Our interns get hands-on training with CAD and surveying, they get practice giving presentations, interacting with clients and contractors, and they are valuable contributors to our project teams. We offer competitive compensation and plan many events designed to have fun and develop strong bonds with each other and with our employee-owners.
Recent Graduates
Every engineering firm places a high level of importance on recruiting. At GHA we have learned that it is just important that our onboarding process is thorough, professional, and enjoyable. Our goal is to make our new hires feel welcome and well taken care of from the moment they enter our door. Our recent graduates have many needs in common, but also unique challenges that should be addressed with customized training plans. Our EPN (Emerging Professionals Network) provides training and mentoring as well as a group dynamic that makes sure that nobdy is left feeling isolated. New engineering and technical hires receive one-on-one CAD instruction as well as technical training opportunities specific to their service line.
Project Managers
The transition to becoming a Project Manager is very underrated when it comes on the impact to one’s day to day responsibilities. Often the tendency is to think a new project manager has “arrived” and should be capable of handling whatever challenges come their way without supervision or guidance. In reality, this transition introduces a slew of new challenges and expectations. At GHA, your preparation to becoming a Project Manager begins well before you take responsibility for your first project. You have been interacting with clients and contractors since you were an intern. You have received training on communications and leadership. To fill in any gaps and offer a refresher we provide an annual Project Manager one-day training course that explains in detail the GHA financial system, provides training on business development, marketing and client management. This training is supplemented by offsite and online training options customized to your personal training plan.
Leadership
Training and development needs do not cease when you take on a leadership role at GHA. Leaders at GHA receive thorough and timely feedback in the form of 360 degree evaluations and customized training programs as a result. Leaders attend quarterly Diversity, Equity, and Inclusion group sessions with a focus on leadership skills and conflict management. In addition, leaders are expected to participate as subject matter experts and trainers in various other GHA-developed training sessions for interns and employee-owners.
Technical Development Initiative (TDI)
Our TDI team develops technical training that ranges from Tips and Tricks, short video How-Tos, to comprehensive pre-recorded or in-person technical courses. The TDI team is continually hard at work developing new training content.
Leadership Development Initiatives (LDI)
The LDI team produces a yearly five-session course designed to improve leadership skills in employee-owners at all levels of the organization. These sessions are interactive group events that emphasize participation and respectful debate. Participants develop skills, in communication, time-management, client management, business development, conflict management and a variety of other leadership topics.
