Gewalt Hamilton Associates (GHA) was retained to assist in the design and construction oversite of the former Thunderbird Country Club Golf Course and Clubhouse. The primary objective was to create a beautiful, first-class golf course by integrating lakes and wetlands within a rolling terrain. Views of, and noise from, US Route 14 were minimized from the course playing areas. Drainage was improved to allow for quick re-opening of the course even after heavy rainstorms. The completed improvements provided more than 83 acre-feet of flood storage, created over 11 acres of high-quality wetlands, while moving over 1,000,000 cubic yards of dirt.
GHA also designed the adjacent offsite roadway improvements on Touhy Avenue and Lincoln Avenue, required to support the development. These improvements include signal modifications at three adjacent intersections as well as lighting and roadway improvement on 3,000 feet of adjacent roadways.
