GHA was selected to provide design and construction engineering services for the $2.3 million Knollwood Subdivision Flood Mitigation Project. The Knollwood subdivision was developed in the 1950s and 1960s prior to the existence of floodplain regulations. The sole entrance to the subdivision and much of the roadway system was below the 10-year flood elevation and sat on unstable soils. Access to the subdivision was blocked during flood events.

GHA was selected to provide key engineering services for the $2.3 million flooding mitigation project, funded by an Illinois Department of Commerce and Economic Opportunity (DCEO) grant and the Village of Fox Lake.

The Improvements included raising the road approximately 2 feet above the 100-year elevation, stabilizing the eroded shorelines in the area, and restoring drainage paths in the subdivision to ensure that rainfall is directed away from private property, and that the neighborhood is accessible during flood events.
