Gewalt Hamilton Associates, Inc. (GHA) was retained by the Village of Kenilworth to provide construction engineering services for this 0.62-mile resurfacing and reconstruction project on one of the Village’s minor collector streets within a residential neighborhood. This project utilized Surface Transportation Program (STP) funding provided by the Illinois Department of Transportation (IDOT) and local funds. The proposed improvements consisted of partial roadway reconstruction and widening, roadway resurfacing, combined sewer removal and replacement, regulated substances coordination, extensive ADA improvements, traffic signal modifications, and landscape improvements. Due to the scope of improvements and related impacts, this project also required a temporary detour route.

Construction coordination with MWRD, IDOT, and two adjacent unrelated construction projects was imperative to keeping this project on schedule and not adversely affecting the traveling public. Additionally, the project corridor consisted of two churches and day schools, three parks, Village Hall, and significant pedestrian traffic from neighboring Sears School, and both the Metra train station and community beach at the project’s limits. Extensive communication was especially important to accommodate the adjacent park district offices, Assembly Hall events, community club events, and the adjacent community police department.

GHA provided contract administration and full-time construction engineering services in accordance with IDOT procedures.
