Gewalt Hamilton Associates, Inc. (GHA) was retained by the Village of Deerfield to provide construction engineering services for this 0.89-mile reconstruction and resurfacing project on one of the Village’s major east-west collector streets within a residential neighborhood. This project utilized Surface Transportation Program funding provided by IDOT and local funds. The proposed improvements consisted of roadway reconstruction, roadway widening and resurfacing, new storm sewer systems, sanitary sewer improvements, water main replacement, water and storm sewer lining, regulated substances coordination, extensive ADA improvements, traffic signal modifications, and parkway restoration. Due to the scope of improvements and related impacts, Greenwood Avenue from Waukegan Road to the Metra Railroad was closed to through traffic throughout the summer and required a temporary detour route.

Construction coordination with Metra, IDOT, and the Village was imperative to keeping this project on schedule and not adversely affecting the traveling public.

To effectively communicate to the traveling public and local residents, GHA provided the content for weekly project updates and the Village sent out digital newsletter updates via email. From the start of the project, the Resident Engineer was the face of the project and acted as an extension of Village staff.

GHA’s Resident Engineer coordinated in a professional and satisfactory manner with the Village’s Phase II consultant.

GHA provided contract administration and full-time construction engineering services in accordance with IDOT procedures.
