The Forest Preserve District of Kane County retained Gewalt Hamilton Associates, Inc. (GHA) to provide engineering services for the removal of a structurally deficient footbridge and installation of a new single span, 10 Ft wide, 200-foot-long bicycle & pedestrian bridge. This project included the removal of an existing earthen causeway along with the stabilization and restoration of approximately 1,750 FT of shoreline within the Fox River. Work included, removal of the existing earthen causeway, which will restore the remaining land mass to an island, re-grading the riverbanks and stabilizing with native restoration plantings and boulder toe reinforcements, bike path and sidewalk installation.

GHA provided a detailed HEC-RAS hydraulic model of the existing and proposed conditions for Fox River in the vicinity of the bridge crossing and demonstrated that the proposed bridge complied with the regulatory floodway and floodplain requirements for conveyance, velocity, and riverine floodplain compensatory storage.
