Gewalt Hamilton Associates, Inc. (GHA) recently completed the synthetic turf soccer field project for Cristo Rey St. Martin College Prep School in Waukegan, IL. This project involved transforming an undeveloped portion of the school’s site into a state-of-the-art synthetic turf soccer field.

This 210′ x 560′ synthetic turf field features an 8′ chain link fence enclosure, complete with a walking track along the outside perimeter. It also features field lighting, bleachers, and a concession building.

Our scope of services included comprehensive site design and engineering, preparation of detailed construction documents, and specifications for all civil work. This involved earthwork, grading, drainage improvements, and utility connections. A significant aspect was the stormwater management design, ensuring compliance with the Lake County Watershed Development Ordinance (WDO). GHA coordinated with the City of Waukegan to confirm that stormwater detention was not required and secured approvals for the wetland exclusion request.

GHA conducted a detailed topographic survey and coordinated with utility companies to integrate accurate utility information into our design. The survey included establishing permanent site benchmarks and mapping the existing conditions to guide the construction process.

We facilitated the acquisition of necessary permits from the City of Waukegan and the IEPA, ensuring all regulatory requirements were met. During the construction phase, GHA provided construction administration services, including reviewing shop drawings, managing field orders, and conducting site visits to monitor progress and compliance.

The successful completion of the synthetic turf soccer field project at Cristo Rey St. Martin College Prep highlights GHA’s dedication to delivering high-quality engineering solutions. By integrating comprehensive design and effective project management, we contributed to the enhancement of the school’s athletic facilities, providing a modern and sustainable sports environment for students and the community.
