The Arlington Countryside Storm Sewer project, conducted by Gewalt Hamilton Associates Inc. (GHA) for the City of Prospect Heights, included a comprehensive scope of work ranging from conceptual design to full construction engineering services. The project, which ran from October 2019 to August 2022, involved significant upgrades to the stormwater system, including a new lift station and storm sewer force main, outfall construction, and a range of other enhancements totaling $3.0 million.

DESIGN AND PLANNING (PHASES I & II)

GHA developed a hydraulic and hydrologic model to present drainage improvement options for the Arlington Countryside subdivision, which has long been prone to flooding. Based on the findings, GHA refined the model and designed the improvement project to include a lift station capable of 2,240 gallons per minute, 5,000 feet of 18-inch storm force main, and new storm sewer installations.

CONSTRUCTION ENGINEERING (PHASE III)

During the construction phase, GHA provided construction engineering services, ensuring that all operations conformed to the contract documents and permitting agency requirements. This role included a range of responsibilities from pre-construction meetings, shop drawing reviews, and designated erosion control inspections. GHA’s oversight also included traffic control inspections, coordination with stakeholders, and diligent management of construction documentation and contract closeout procedures.
