GHA offers a great opportunity for anyone planning to begin a career in the civil professional consulting industry!

Our internship program is extensive and provides many avenues for learning. Interns will be involved in engineering design, AutoCAD drafting, construction observation, GIS, stormwater management, and surveying. They will have the opportunity to work closely with seasoned civil engineers, project managers, and directors of the company.

Each division at GHA looks to bring on a few interns. If you’re interested in one of the our disciplines listed below, we may have a spot for you!

  • TRANSPORTATION
  • SITE DESIGN

  • MUNICIPAL
  • GIS-GEOSPATIAL

  • CONSTRUCTION & SURVEY
  • WATER RESOURCES

GHA is interested in connecting with students who are dedicated to learning new skills, showcase integrity, and have a passion to learn and grow. By accepting a summer internship at GHA, you can expect to work within your civil discipline of choice and receive real-world, hands-on experience with a firm that works on both public and private sector projects. Some of this work includes: Chicago Botanic Garden – Glencoe, IL, Lake Forest College, Glenview Park Golf Club, Glenbrook Hospital, Fabyan Preserve Pedestrian Bridge – Geneva, IL, Skokie Playfields – Winnetka, IL, and Crossings Pond Shoreline – Buffalo Grove, IL.

In addition to the experience interns will gain, GHA also offers in-house classes throughout the summer. These classes focus on Construction, Survey, GIS, EOPC, and CAD. We will also be introducing a new class this year hosted by our own engineers who have experience taking the FE/PE exams. This class will focus on when and how to sign up for the exams, helpful tips for preparing, and resources for studying.

Throughout the summer, interns are invited to attend GHA-related events. Some events we’ve hosted in the past include: Chicago Dogs Baseball game, Bags (cornhole) Tournament, Wiffle Ball Tournament, potlucks, intern get-togethers, and more!

As the summer concludes, interns will get to create a short presentation and showcase what they’ve learned as a GHA civil engineer intern and present to a small group.

The top 3 presentations will have the opportunity to present to the entire staff and a company picnic is hosted as a send-off for our interns!

Summer internship runs from late May to mid-August, is Monday – Friday, 40 hours a week, and is a paid internship. Although the hours are full-time, GHA encourages the interns to take vacations and time off as needed.

GHA understands the value of summer internships and strives to provide the best learning opportunities. Our goal for each student is to conclude the summer with a polished skillset, new experiences to share, and a continued passion for Civil Engineering.

OUR CAREER DEVELOPMENT PROGRAM STARTS WITH INTERNSHIPS

At GHA, we have always invested heavily in our intern program. We know that our interns are our future employee-owners, clients, or project partners. Regardless of whether our interns choose to build their careers at GHA, or one of their other many options, our goal is for them to have a rewarding summer experience that includes learning and developing valuable skills.

Our interns get hands-on training with CAD and surveying, they get practice giving presentations, interacting with clients and contractors, and they are valuable contributors to our project teams. We offer competitive compensation and plan many events designed to have fun and develop strong bonds with each other and with our employee-owners.
