GHA has successfully shown its expertise in providing a complete range of surveying services to the development, design, legal and government professional. A few projects that highlight our experience are described below.

Surveying Projects

Village of Gurnee – Grand Avenue Street Lighting
Survey and Plat existing right of Grand Avenue (IL Route 132) from Fuller Avenue to Tollway

GHA provided research to obtain record documents relating to existing right-of-way of Grand Avenue as well as field reconnaissance and a survey of found monuments.  GHA calculates right-of-way from field data and existing records for the purpose of proposed street lighting location, and generated a Plat of Survey depicting right-of-way, found monuments, control points, and references to appropriate record documents.  The project tied to Illinois State Plane Coordinate System through the Village of Gurnee survey control monuments.  This right-of-way varies substantially having been widened by ISTHA, IDOT, LCDOT (at Dilleys Road), and a number of commercial and residential developments.

Village of Skokie – Skokie Boulevard
Roadway Topography and Cross Sections

Existing conditions survey of Skokie Avenue (IL Route 41) at Old Orchard Mall, including the intersections of Golf and Old Orchard Roads.  This project involved complete topography and cross sections at 50 foot stations within the right-of-way.  The purpose of this survey was for intersection design study, pavement widening, and traffic signal modification.  The challenges on this survey were the high traffic volumes and the complexity of the underground sewer and utilities network.

Oakton Community College – Stream Survey

Survey of the Des Plaines River from Central Road to Golf Road.  Field work included streambed and water surface profiles, and cross sections including descriptions of Manning’s n-values.  Office work included plan/profile and cross section plots of the survey.  The purpose of this work was a study that resulted in a streambank stabilization program for Oakton Community College.

City of Des Plaines – Capital Improvement Program 2000-2007

Topography and cross sections of various City streets totaling 13,000 feet.  Field survey also included underground utility investigations. Office processing employed Bentley Systems Microstation J and GEOPAK civil design software, Version 2000.  Submittals included all field notes, control sketches, plan, profile, and cross section plots.  CAD drawings were used by the City of Des Plaines for in house design.

Illinios Department of Transportation (IDOT) – Hydraulic Report Surveys

Stream survey of Mill Creek at Kean Avenue.  Project was later expanded to include the upstream area at 119th Street.  Project included control recovery, cross sections, streambed and water surface profiles, finish floor and low water entry elevations at adjoining residences.  Field work for 119th Street was performed in mid-winter.
