Following completion of the Phase I Engineering Study for the Village of Riverwoods, Gewalt Hamilton was retained by the Lake County Division of Transportation to complete Phase II Design Engineering for the Deerfield Road Bike Path. As proposed, the project includes approximately 8,100 linear feet of 8’-wide off-road, shared-use asphalt path, as well as approximately 75 linear feet of elevated boardwalk over Thorngate Creek.

Phase I surveying services included topographic and right-of-way surveys. Phase 2 surveying services included right-of-way surveying for the necessary land acquisition, review of title commitments, and preparation of legal descriptions for the proposed easements and takings. The plat of highways is currently under review for the land acquisition of 27 parcels required to make way for the proposed 1.3-mile bike path along Deerfield Road, from Thornmeadow Road to Saunders Road. The County is seeking funding for this $1.4 million (estimated) project through the Illinois Transportation Enhancement Program (ITEP).
