Abovenet Fiber Optic Installation - Lake County, IL

Abovenet 1

Abovenet Fiber Optic Installation
Lake County, Illinois

Abovenet, a private operator of fiber optic communications networks, required a complete, redundant fiber optic route between two corporate sites in Lake County. GHA provided surveying, design and permit review plans, construction and right-of-way staking, and construction observation services for over 62,000’ of new-build fiber.

The 31-mile project route ran along five State roadways and four County highways through eight municipalities. Permitting was required through the Illinois Department of Natural Resources and USACE for five Regulatory Floodway crossings and numerous wetland crossings, and through two railroad companies for four rail crossings. In addition, one of the State roadways was under construction for widening, and a County highway was scheduled for a grade-separation project. GHA acquired the plans for these improvement projects and incorporated the proposed improvements into the design, avoiding future relocation of the fiber lines.

Water Storage Reservoir & Pumping Station - Bannockburn, IL

Bannockburn Water Reservoir Construction

Water Storage Reservoir & Pumping Station
Bannockburn, Illinois

The Village of Bannockburn is a small residential and commercial suburb in Lake County, that was developed without a domestic and fire protection public water storage reservoir. Over the 20 year planning period, water mains replaced the individual water wells and provided a fire protection system for the non residential, commercial, college, and office customers within the Village. An underground water storage reservoir and booster pumping station was planned, designed, and constructed to protect the Village users during peak demands, fire fighting, or emergencies.

GHA analyzed, sited, planned, and designed a combined 800,000 gallon reinforced concrete water storage and booster pumping facility to-----. The reservoir was sited to make optimum use of the Village hydraulic topography and customer concentration. The booster pumping and meter station was designed to operate seamlessly with a joint 12,000 lineal foot 30” pre-cast reinforced concrete pressure transmission main that was constructed with the Village’s western neighbor. The SCADA controlled booster pump station was designed for 5 MGD and allowed for minimizing electrical consumption during low-flow seasons and high-pressure operating conditions provided by the water supplier.

Cuba Township Road Program

Annual Road Program
Cuba Township, Illinois

GHA has been providing civil engineering services to the Cuba Township Road District since 2003, including annual paving work and drainage design within the Villages of North Barrington, Lake Barrington and Tower Lakes. During that time frame, GHA has designed and provided project management for over $5.5 million dollars in paving and drainage improvements.

The Intergovernmental Agreement and cooperation between the various municipalities has allowed for larger overall projects, more competitive pricing, and reduced overall engineering costs.

GHA services have included surveying, design, neighborhood meetings, MFT document preparation, permitting, drainage design, construction observation and management, construction layout, and project closeout. GHA has also provided comprehensive GIS services for the Road District.

Wvanston Watermain

Multi-Year Watermain & Sewer Improvement Program
Evanston, Illinois

GHA provided complete topographic surveying for the 2004-2005 and 2006-2007 multi-year watermain and sewer improvement programs, totaling more than 28,000 lineal feet of roadway; design of over 20,000 lineal feet of watermain improvements, from 8” to 16” in diameter; and design of over 6,800 lineal feet of relief storm sewer improvements, from 12” to 24” in diameter. GHA also completed the permitting, bidding, contract specifications, project administration, construction layout, and full-time construction observation services for the projects. GHA’s field technicians worked closely with the City of Evanston, CTA, contractor, residents, and business owners to ensure that all projects were completed on time and phased to minimize disruption to daily operations.

GHA was re-selected by the City to continue to provide design and construction management services for the 2007-2008 Water Main, Sewer and Roadway improvement program.

Wilmot Road CPS

Wilmot Road Resurfacing and Widening
Deerfield, Illinois

GHA provided Phase III Construction Engineering services for the Wilmot Road Project, from Gordon Terrace to Deerfield Road. The scope of improvements included approximately 5,000 linear feet of ductile iron watermain, roadway widening, storm sewer improvements, and the replacement of a mid-block pedestrian traffic signal.

The project utilized American Recovery and Reinvestment Act (ARRA) funding and was subject to IDOT inspection, documentation, and material testing requirements. GHA oversaw all aspects of the construction, and provided erosion control compliance site observations on a weekly basis and within 24 hours of a 0.5” or greater rainfall event, in accordance with the requirements of the NPDES ILR 10 permit.
