Civil Engineer II

We are seeking an experienced Civil Engineer to join our growing team located in Vernon Hills, Illinois. The Civil Engineer will perform engineering design, modeling and permitting tasks for site design, roadway, storm and sanitary projects, water main improvements, stormwater management and water resource improvements.

In addition, the candidate shall:

  • Assist in the development of plans, specifications and opinions of probable costs.
  • Be responsible for various engineering tasks related to project studies, designs and development of contract bid documents
  • Assist in the preparation of reports, specifications, plans, construction schedules, and permits for projects.
  • Prepare design computations and quantity estimates.
  • Stormwater system design and analysis including detention, conveyance system and stormwater quality BMPs.
  • Hydrologic and hydraulic modeling and preparation of drainage/hydraulic reports related to site and roadway improvement projects.
  • Perform computer drafting on projects with AutoCAD program.
  • Coordinate project assignments with other engineers and technicians within the Division.

Required Knowledge, Education and Experience:

  • Bachelor’s degree in Civil Engineering or related field.
  • 3 to 8 years of direct civil engineering, municipal engineering or design experience.
  • Engineering Intern (EIT) or Professional Engineer (PE) license in the State of Illinois.
  • Proficiency with federal, state, and local stormwater and floodplain permitting and experience in obtaining various permits.
  • Demonstrated proficiency in the following engineering design and office software:
    • AutoCAD
    • Microsoft Office Suite (Word and Excel)
    • GIS
  • Demonstrated proficiency in stormwater modeling software such as:
    • HEC-RAS, HEC-GeoRAS, HEC-HMS
    • PondPack or TR20
    • XPSWMM

Required Skills and Abilities:

  • Excellent verbal and written communication skills
  • Ability to work independently with general supervision and as part of a larger team
  • Self-starting, detail-oriented individual, with organizational and interpersonal skills essential.
  • Ability to read and interpret technical documents.

Civil Engineer/Water Resources Engineer

We are seeking an experienced Professional Engineer to join our growing team located in Vernon Hills, Illinois. This position requires independent skills and the ability to communicate and collaborate with GHA staff as well as clients and outside agencies to achieve approval for designs, analysis and plans. In addition, the candidate shall:

  •  Assist in the development of plans, specifications and opinions of probable costs.
  • Design and analyze management facilities.
  • Address potential conflicts with existing infrastructure; performs physical site observations and assesses existing conditions.
  • Assist in the process of client change requests, change orders and implementation of approved contracts.
  • Assist in proposal production and implementing marketing initiatives.
  • Completes tasks and meets projects schedules.
  • Communicates with clients regarding project issues, holds and attends meetings.
  • Responsible for document preparation for regulatory agencies to obtain required permits.
  • Responsible for maintaining technical knowledge through completion of various training initiatives; attending seminars, reviewing professional publications, and attending in-house systems/management training.
  • Be proficient in AutoCAD/Civil 3D.
  • Be knowledgeable or proficient in the permitting and regulatory requirements of Lake County Stormwater Management Commission,  Metropolitan Water Reclamation District, and other Chicago collar county stormwater ordinances.

Required Knowledge, Education and Experience:

  • Bachelor’s degree in Civil Engineering or related field.
  • 4 to 7 years of direct civil engineering, municipal engineering or design experience.
  • Requires a Professional Engineer (PE) license in the State of Illinois or the ability to obtain it within 12 months.
  • Requires certification as a Certified Floodplain Manager (CFM) or ability to obtain certification in 12 months.
  • Proficiency with HEC-RAS, HEC-HMS, TR-20, StormCAD, SWMM, and GIS tools including HEC-GeoRAS, HEC-GeoHMS, etc preferred.
  • Demonstrated proficiency in the following engineering design and office software:
    • AutoCAD
    • Microsoft Office Suite (Word and Excel)

Roadway/Highway Design Engineer

Project Engineer who works as a technical leader in conjunction with the Project Manager. This position may oversee the entire design process or assist as a technical expert on specialized design projects. Directs and supervises other engineering activities.  May serve as a task manager or Project Manager on smaller less complex projects.

The position will primarily consist of performing design engineering and plan production efforts on a variety of transportation projects for State, County and Local Agencies. Individual should possess a knowledge of roadway/highway design, horizontal and vertical alignments, grading and drainage, and utility improvements using Microstation/GEOPAK. This position requires independent work skills and the ability to communicate and collaborate with GHA staff and the project team, as well as clients and outside agencies to achieve necessary approvals. The candidate must be self-motivated and organized to handle a variety of tasks on multiple projects.

Responsibilities:

  • Design roadway/highway, underground utilities, and infrastructure improvements for state, county and municipal clients in accordance with accepted design standards using Microstation/GEOPAK.
  • Complete engineering plans and specifications using IDOT Standards.
  • Oversee design for multiple Federal Aid Phase I and Phase II projects for a variety of clients.
  • Ability to perform independent CAD work as well as direct and review production of drawings by others.
  • Work with Project Manager to ensure your team’s tasks, quality, project schedules, budgets and client satisfaction are met.
  • Communicates with project team and clients regarding project issues, coordinates, leads and attends technical meetings, as required.

Qualifications:

  • B.S. degree in Civil Engineering with a Professional Engineer (PE) license.
  • Minimum of 3 years of roadway/highway design experience with an understanding of IDOT processes.
  • Strong Microstation/GEOPAK skills are required.
  • Ability to work in a team-first culture that encourages individual development and accomplishment of goals.
  • Must be able to collaborate with other team members and have good interpersonal skills.
  • Strong oral and written communication skills.
  • Strong planning and organizational skills.
  • Positive attitude and good work ethic.

Engineering Administrative Assistant

The Engineering Administrative Assistant provides general administrative and technical support through a variety of complex secretarial, clerical, and technical activities and related tasks. As an Engineering Administrative Assistant, you shall utilize the company values in all phases of your work. You shall demonstrate strong organizational and communication skills, be a self-starter, be able to carry out assignments with limited oversight in a timely manner, and show competency in the following areas:

Responsibilities:

  • Schedules and organizes complex activities such as meetings, travel, conferences and Division activities as needed
  • Maintains and updates filing system for Division staff. Retrieves information from files when needed
  • Prepares and/or maintains various technical spreadsheets and databases
  • Roadway Plan and Signal Plan Requests
  • Preparation of Permits
  • Phase I and Phase II tasks
  • Develops charts, graphs, and diagrams
  • Prepares, proofreads, and edits technical reports, specifications, correspondence, and proposals
  • Maintains and processes various forms
  • Performs other duties as assigned

Qualifications:

  • 2+ years’ related experience desirable
  • High school diploma or GED required. Associates degree desirable. Bachelor’s degree preferable
  • Strong skills in Microsoft Office required with expert skills in Word, Excel, and PowerPoint preferable
  • Ability to prioritize projects and manage time
  • Provide outstanding customer service
  • Must be detail oriented. Strong grammar, spelling, composition, and proofreading abilities are required
