The Home Depot Store #4932
Beaver Dam, Wisconsin

The HOME DEPOT constructed a 102,513 sf retail building with a 28,086 sf Garden Center at the (SWQ) Highway 151 & C.T.H B in Beaver Dam, Dodge County, Wisconsin. The overall site was 24.32 acres with the HD parcel being 13.49 acres and an additional five out lots totaling approximately 10.83 acres. The pre-developed site was an agricultural use. Offsite median improvements and right turn lane of HWY 151 & C.T.H. “B” were part of the civil engineering scope of services.

GHA provided complete civil engineering services, from preliminary cost estimating through construction. Work included storm water and flood modeling, detention under multiple criteria, utility improvements, parking and access improvements.

Stormwater management issues required coordination and permitting through the City of Beaver Dam Environmental Engineering Section. Site water and sewer construction were coordinated with and permitted through the Beaver Dam Development Center, and general site improvements with the Wisconsin Department of Commerce. Extensive project team coordination was provided with the Home Depot Construction Manager, Site Development Coordinator, Architect, Geotechnical Engineer, Fire Safety Consultant, and others.

The primary challenge was constructing a major retail center on a parcel of land that had 37 feet of topographic relief without the use of any retaining walls. The second challenge was the ability to enter into a new city to provide engineering that meets all applicable codes and provide engineering documents that were approved for construction both within budget and the timeframe necessary to provide a very successful project.

The Home Depot Beaver Dam, Wisconsin, is currently open and operating.
